Why join the IRH?
Herbal medicine is going through a period of transition and
with the introduction of THMPD in 2011 and other legislation
from Brussels it is a time of concern for all herbalists and
members of the public. The IRH works behind the scenes with the
relevant bodies to keep up to date with developments in the
herbal sector and to reflect this information back to
membership. Members are kept fully cogent of the legal situation
in regard to clinical practice and the specific use of certain
herbs and herbal products; as well as being informed of the
latest scientific discoveries and other key developments within
the herbal community.
The IRH is affiliated to FICTA (Federation of Irish Complimentary
Therapy Associations - www.ficta.com) and to EHTPA
(European Herbal and Traditional medicine Practitioner's Association
- www.ehtpa.eu)
with up to date access to developments within the sector at local
and European level. The IRH is a founder and member of the Community
of Irish Herbalists -
www.communityofirishherbalists.ie - who
organise the annual HerbFeast event in Ireland, a celebration of all
things botanical. The IRH also makes submissions to the Irish
Medicines Board and other government departments and aims to protect
and enhance the legal status of the herbal practitioner. The IRH is
also an affiliate of the National Herbal Council.
It is of utmost importance to be part of a professional body
such as the IRH, as it provides a unified platform for its
members, enabling it to focus on establishing a strong and
professional image for Herbalism. Only through such efforts can
we expect Herbalism to move towards integration within a modern
Healthcare system of a new Ireland. It is within the interests
of all herbalists to strongly support this work.
